REPORTS TO: Department Head and Program DirectorEXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: Exempt/Salary (Unit A)SALARY/ WAGE: In accordance with the LABBB Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement WORK YEAR: In accordance with the LABBB Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement. Part Time .80 FTELocation: Will travel between multiple LABBB Collaborative ProgramsQUALIFICATIONS:●Masters degree from an approved Social Work or Mental Health Counselor program●Valid License/Certification to practice as a Social Worker or Mental Health Counselor and DESE license and School Adjustment Counselor in Massachusetts●Strong background in use of counseling strategies (CBT, DBT, Collaborative Problem Solving, Restorative Justice, etc.) related to school counseling●Willingness and experience working with students with a variety of disabilities with a focus on social emotional needs who potentially present with challenging behaviors.●Valid driver’s license and ability to commute between buildings/programs during the day.●Ability and willingness to drive LABBB van (as required by program)PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physically capable of carrying out the daily responsibilities of the classroom including (but not limited to): consistently attending, working and standing for long periods of time, transferring students into and out of various equipment, lifting up to 50 pounds, working with students on the floor, moving quickly when needed in response to student behavior, and participating in physical interventions if necessary to keep the student or others in the environment safe.POSITION SUMMARY: The Counselor works directly under the supervision of the Department Head and Program Director and acts as a member of a student’s multidisciplinary team in providing academic, behavioral, transition and therapeutic support to students throughout the day; implements direct instruction, actively supervises students, and ensures that the physical and emotional needs of children are being met on a daily basis.GENERAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:●Provide direct counseling services (group and individual) for children and adolescents in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations for educational and school-based purposes●Use observation and various formal and informal assessments to conduct appropriate assessments of students in all phases of the evaluation process as related to physical therapy in the school setting●Write and implement goals, objectives, accommodations, modifications, service delivery, transition planning, and summary of student performance as needed for the IEP●Attend IEP meetings to communicate results of evaluations/ re-evaluations, goals, objectives, accommodations, modifications, intervention plan, and type of service delivery needed.●Attend required staff meetings; professional development trainings; and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees●Provide support and training to school based teams to support generalization of skills and skill building through the school day in all settings●Complete regular documentation including data collection, progress notes, individualized education plans, formal and informal assessments, and Medicaid billing as indicated●Supervise Counseling Interns as requested by the department head●Provide referrals and coordination to community-based agencies such as DDS, DMH, and DCF●Provide crisis intervention services and risk assessment using evidence-based approaches as needed●Maintain familiarity with standardized tests and therapy materials and devices and to make recommendations for the acquisition of such items when they are required for therapy●Familiarize oneself with new equipment and technologies as are required to deliver optimum services●Support students' development of independence, social awareness, language, academic skills and appropriate behavior●Provide and facilitate meaningful inclusion opportunities for students into regular education classrooms as indicated●Create and modify curriculum materials, supports, and instructional strategies as necessary to meet students’ needs in the classroom and community settings●Participate in the referral process as requested (review referral documents, conduct student visits, conduct student observations, assist in gathering additional information needed to help determine appropriateness of placement at LABBB●Participate in hiring process as requested to help determine appropriateness of applicants OTHER DUTIES:●Collaborate with members of multidisciplinary teams including teachers, BCBA, OT, PT, SLP, Counselors, and Vision providers and implement treatment plans as needed or requested to support skill development, generalization and transition planning across settings and throughout the day●Show respect and compassion for all members of the classroom and school environment including students, families, staff, and other community members.●Uphold LABBB’s mission and core values as well as adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the field and contribute to a positive and safe school culture●Support students’ personal care needs which may include activities of daily living (ADL’s) such as communication, toileting, feeding, transferring, self-care, and assistance with mobility including lifting,●Supervise students across educational settings including at lunch and in the community●Maintain professional boundaries with staff, parents, and students●Maintain a clean, orderly, safe learning environment●Continued education in major and related fields-ongoing.●Maintain licensure and professional competence by attending staff development programs, and other professional activities as well as understanding and applying principles taught in training and seminars to the educational environment including de-escalation and restraint training ( as required by program) etc.●Travel between schools for services, consultations and Team meetings as needed●Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Coordinator or Program Director or other appropriate administrator.EVALUATION: In accordance with the LABBB Collective Bargaining AgreementThe statements contained in this job description reflect general details, as necessary, to describe the principal functions of this job, the level of knowledge and skill typically required, and the scope of responsibility.
